Abstract

Not all of the earth’s deserts are sandy, arid landscapes - there are also food deserts in cities where residents have difficulty accessing fresh, healthy food. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a useful area to study food deserts due to its steep hills, rivers and city layout.
